Joe Biden, the 82-year-old President of the United States, has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. On Friday, they announced what they found. Equally alarming is the damage to health that it poses for a future head of state who would take office in 2025. The prognosis attached to Biden’s Gleason score of 9, which puts it in Grade Group 5, offers very little hope. Yet it has metastasized to the bone. Before receiving his diagnosis, he’d been struggling with worsening urinary symptoms.
Due to his markedly increased burden in light of his condition, Biden and his family have begun considering course of treatments with his doctors. The President shared a heartfelt message with the public, stating, “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”
As American presidents go, Biden’s relationship with England’s King Charles III has been pretty darn rosy. The two leaders get along quite well. Most significantly, they held a bilateral meeting at the Cop-26 summit in Glasgow in 2021, at which point Charles was still being referred to as the Prince of Wales. Next, more recently, in July 2023, Biden again met King Charles, this time at Windsor Castle.
Biden’s fondness for Charles deepened when he learned that the King had been diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of 2024. This news made the two men’s bond even stronger. Biden had remarked, “I’m concerned about him. Just heard about his diagnosis. I’ll be talking to him, God willing.” This feeling really sums up the mutual reverence and understanding that have blossomed between the two of them over the years.
King Charles III is being treated in a London hospital for an unnamed cancer at the age of 76. Given the recent health news surrounding Biden, he added that he’s sending his best to the President. Their resources and continuing conversation show the shared experience of not just government officials but of everyone beyond those confines.
Biden’s health journey is now a focal point for many as he navigates the complexities of cancer treatment and survivorship. He emphasized the importance of hope and courage during challenging times, stating, “Navigating a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship takes hope and absolute courage.”
As Biden and his family confront this health challenge, they remain committed to exploring all available treatment options while relying on the support of loved ones and the public. To the President’s credit, he has proven great fortitude when under fire. This gives hope to a lot of people who are still struggling themselves.
