Award-Winning Artist Unveils Portrait of the Duke of Kent in Florence

A brilliant new portrait of the Duke of Kent has been released by acclaimed British artist Jamie Coreth. This thrilling announcement came during their annual New Generation Festival held in Florence. This portrait was commissioned by the New Generation Festival and Mascarade Opera. It portrays the Duke in a stately but friendly manner as he reclines casually in an armchair, garbed in a crisp button down shirt, olive green blazer and slacks, while gripping his Cromach.

The exhibition featured his portrait, which will be displayed permanently at the Palazzo Corsini al Prato. Coreth posted the unveiling moment on Instagram, noting that he couldn’t be more happy to be in Florence for this wonderful occasion.

“Wonderful to be in Florence with the @new_generation_festival for the unveiling of my portrait of HRH the Duke of Kent. It was an honour to paint him. Well done @leone.cornici on a beautiful frame!” – Jamie Coreth

Coreth’s newest work has gotten some well-deserved attention. He came to public prominence when he painted the first joint portrait of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The newlywed couple finally saw their portrait in person at Cambridgeshire’s Fitzwilliam Museum in June 2022.

For more than 40 years the Duke of Kent has served as proud Colonel of the Scots Guards. He refers to this role as “a true honour” because it gives him tremendous joy. The portrait conveys his deep dedication to this noble office, accentuated by the image of his Cromach.

Her ladyship Marina Windsor, the Duke’s granddaughter, gives Coreth a tick of approval — “Love it Jamie! Well, this endorsement comes as no surprise whatsoever. The artist’s background was one of great success and his deep commitment to portraying his subjects with poise and compassion shows.

Coreth’s artistic vision was to portray these royal figures in a more human way. Looking ahead to painting the royal couple, he discussed his ideas. Perhaps most importantly, he doesn’t want to portray them as angry and aggressive.
