Arsenal’s Draw with Crystal Palace Paves the Way for Liverpool’s Title Triumph

Arsenal’s frustrating 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday, in a result that just about ruined their dreams of winning the Premier League. Liverpool’s victory, combined with Manchester City’s loss to Chelsea, puts the Reds marginally on the edge of clinching the title. They now enjoy a huge 12-point advantage over closest rivals Arsenal, who have only four games remaining this campaign.

The match began with Arsenal taking an early lead when Jakub Kiwior scored his first league goal since February 2024. The Polish central defender opened the scoring to give the visitors a dream start at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace responded quickly. Eberechi Eze’s equalizer from an overhead was a fierce and artistic volley, his trademark flair on full display.

After USMNT’s Matt Turner, Arsenal regained the lead late in the first half through Leandro Trossard. The Gunners looked destined to run away with the game, but the second 45 minutes was anything but cut-and-dried. With just seven minutes left, Mateta went for a spectacular long-range effort from 30 yards out. Step forward Olise, who nearly shocked the away side with a sensational equaliser. Mateta’s wonderful chip over an out-of-position goalkeeper David Raya’s head completed a wild finish.

Although the draw was disheartening, the game served as a great stage for many strong performances. David Raya made multiple crucial saves throughout the game, including a brilliant intervention to push Bukayo Saka’s volley over the crossbar. Adding to Arsenal’s woes, Saka was forced to stay on the sidelines with a recent injury, leaving the Gunners with fewer options in attack.

Head coach Mikel Arteta is keen to put out a strong side versus Crystal Palace. He categorically rejected the notion of resting first-team regulars, even with a daunting Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain just three days away. The draw puts the Gunners in a very tough spot atop the league table.

Liverpool are poised to finally get their hands on the Premier League trophy. Their goal difference is +44, Arsenal’s is +34. With just four matches remaining for the Gunners, their path to the title has never appeared more difficult.

Arsenal is surely studying their game against Crystal Palace. Now, though, they have to be able to turn their attention back to the Champions League and the road ahead. The draw was a wake-up call in terms of the intense competition that awaits them both in the domestic league and in European tournament play.
