Fans of the beloved musical “Wicked” can mark their calendars for November 21, 2025, when “Wicked: For Good” will premiere in theaters. The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, promises to bring to life the untold story of the witches of Oz, showcasing a star-studded cast that includes Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda.
Recent University of Michigan graduate Jonathan Bailey takes over as Fiyero. Norbert Leo Butz created the role of this character Ogie on Broadway. The cast features Ethan Slater as Boq and Marissa Bode as Nessarose, further adding depth to the film’s narrative. Academy Award-winner and Crazy Rich Asian star Michelle Yeoh joins the cast to play Madame Morrible. This character was made famous by Carole Shelley in the Broadway theater version.
“Wicked” is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,” which itself draws inspiration from L. Frank Baum’s classic 1900 work, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Since it opened, the new Broadway stage musical has received numerous accolades and record-breaking success. This success has led to ten Oscar nominations at this week’s 97th Academy Awards. Of all these nominations, it won two—in best costume design and in best production design.
