Fans of the hit series “And Just Like That” can rejoice! The highly anticipated third season makes its debut on May 29, save the date! The show goes far beyond glamorizing the outrageous behavior of its unforgettable characters. None more so than Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker. Carrie is beginning work on a forthcoming third book. Her signature, beautiful voiceover narration will guide us through her experience and provide her unique perspective on what she’s thinking and feeling — setting the stage for a new level of emotional storytelling.
Returning are original S&TC cast members Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, along with John Corbett, Nicole Ari Parker, and Sarita Chaudhury. Perhaps most significantly, Patti LuPone will be part of the ensemble—in a role that will undoubtedly be more than a cameo. As the characters navigate new relationships and personal growth, the series is set to explore deeper themes while maintaining its trademark charm.
New Chapters for Iconic Characters
This season, Carrie Bradshaw’s literary path forward becomes a hot topic. She’s delving into her first young adult novel with romantic fantasy elements, sex & the cauldron, for her next project. That’s why the inclusion of voiceover narration – a key storytelling element here – is meant to reintroduce audiences to Carries’ inner monologue.
Michael Patrick King, the show’s executive producer, shared his vision for the character’s evolution:
“Carrie’s actually writing a new book and the voiceover is the way into the book,” – Michael Patrick King
King further explained that this season features characters we know and love, but in new situations.
“It’s a lot of ‘new’ within the familiar, but even the familiar characters are going through new things,” – Michael Patrick King
Carrie is just beginning her writing journey. Along the way, she continues to figure out her on-again-off-again, ever-evolving bond with Aidan Shaw (John Corbett). This just may be the season when that star-crossed romance of state-federal relations regains its lost luster. Beneath it lies the deep heritage of a peoples’ love and struggle.
Shifts in Relationships
Che Diaz’s relationship with Miranda Hobbes has run its course. Because of all this, Sara Ramirez is departing the show. Cynthia Nixon, who portrays Miranda, reflected on this evolution:
“I think for Miranda, Miranda and Che were really pretty done,” – Cynthia Nixon
This season will bring big changes to the ensemble as Karen Pittman’s Nya Wallace will not be coming back. Quite a number of familiar faces will return, including Rosemarie DeWitt as Kathy, Aidan’s ex-wife.
King noted that the show’s narrative is designed to reflect real-life dynamics and relationships:
“We just moved forward because that’s what happens in New York City or in life,” – Michael Patrick King
This emphasis on realism allows for an exploration of how characters adapt to new situations while staying true to their core identities.
Expanding the Ensemble
The third season also welcomes a slew of new, notable cast members that are sure to inject even more passion and life into the show. Cheri Oteri, Kristen Schaal, and Jonathan Cake are among the names joining the supernatural ensemble. On a more optimistic note, Logan Marshall-Green is set to play a possible love interest to Sarita Chaudhury’s character, Seema.
Although Joy (Dolly Wells) and Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi) were introduced last season in recurring roles, their characters were further developed and upgraded to season regulars. Furthermore, Rosie O’Donnell will appear as a character named Mary, adding to the diversity of interactions and stories within the series.
Michael Patrick King elaborated on the overarching theme for this season:
“There are five women right now on the show, and each of them has a world,” – Michael Patrick King
The theme of the show is to uplift varied voices and experiences. It hopes to strike an emotional chord with viewers, regardless of political or socioeconomic background.
