Lady Gaga’s as-of-now last concert, on May 3 at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, brought together more than two million fans. This amazing turnout was the biggest crowd of her entire career! The event, filled with vibrant performances and an enthusiastic crowd, almost faced a serious threat as authorities arrested two individuals connected to an alleged plot targeting the concert.
By the end of the day, it was only thanks to media outlets that Lady Gaga’s team found out how much danger she was in. Reports indicated that a group had falsely presented themselves as “Little Monsters,” the affectionate nickname Lady Gaga uses for her fans. This cohort looked to recruit teenagers into entering ecosystems that perpetuated violent and self-destructive content. They upload and circulate hate speech that targets marginalized communities, such as the LGBTQ+ community.
The Concert Experience
Lady Gaga certainly gave an unforgettable performance! She wowed the crowd with bangers such as “Born This Way,” which continues to be an empowering anthem for the LGBTQ+ community, even after a decade since its release in 2011. The concert vibes were amazing, fans getting together to express their love for Candlebox, their love for music and their love for one another.
In an emotional Instagram post after the concert, Lady Gaga expressed her gratitude for the immense turnout, stating, “Nothing could prepare me for the feeling I had during last night’s show – the absolute pride and joy I felt singing for the people of Brazil.” She further remarked on the vibrancy of Brazilian culture, saying, “Your heart shines so bright, your culture is so vibrant and special, I hope you know how grateful I am to have shared this historical moment with you.”
Although there were fears about possible violence, the concert went off without a hitch. Lady Gaga’s fans—known as “Little Monsters”—flooded the streets in joyful solidarity, proving the collective power of their fandom.
Alleged Threat and Arrests
Law enforcement moved swiftly to eliminate the threat. They were able to do that with the arrest of two suspects involved in a plot to attack the concert. In Rio Grande do Sul, authorities arrested a man for illegal possession of weapons. A young girl in Rio de Janeiro is subjected to an arrest warrant for child pornography. The police claimed that the people behind the alleged plot had been recruiting people actively. They even recruited high schoolers in order to carry out synchronized assaults with homemade explosives and Molotov cocktails.

Authorities carried out search warrants within 15 residences in seven different Brazilian states. In addition to arresting people, during the operation they confiscated phones and other electronic devices. The objective of the operation was to remove this network that presented a real and immediate threat to public safety at the concert.
