Alex Morgan Embraces Motherhood and Athletic Legacy with New Campaign

Alex Morgan, a celebrated figure in women’s soccer, continues to balance her illustrious career and motherhood while advocating for support systems for mothers. Morgan has 123 career goals and 224 career caps with the U.S. Women’s National Team. On the field, she has two FIFA Women’s World Cup championships and one NWSL Golden Boot to her name. Morgan is all-in as a new mother of two—Charlie is five, and Enzo is only five months old! All the while, she’s getting ready to have her former jersey number 13 retired by San Diego Wave Fútbol Club on September 7.

In a recent collaboration with Bobbie, an organic baby formula company recognized in TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies of 2025, Morgan is launching a campaign titled “There’s No Scoreboard in Motherhood.” As a collaborative partner, this initiative brought up the criticality of confidence for mothers. Morgan has learned this important lesson — the hard way and firsthand.

Balancing Career and Family Life

Morgan’s path to becoming a professional athlete has certainly not been an easy one. After childbirth for Charlie it was super difficult for her. Breastfeeding became a big stressor and living and training in London only compounded her difficulties.

“It was extremely stressful trying to get back to playing full time while my supply was going down,” Morgan recalled, illustrating the difficulties many working mothers face.

As she navigates the demands of being a professional athlete and a parent, Morgan highlights the need for robust support systems. To Jennifer, honoring all of the distinct paths that mothers take is immensely important.

“I think what’s important is being able to have that support system, because the burden always falls on the mom.” – Alex Morgan

It’s an idea that has the enthusiastic backing of Morgan’s husband, Servando Carrasco — a former professional soccer player himself. Together, they’re a shining example of how families can withstand the rigors of professional sports.

Redefining Success in Motherhood

In her new campaign with Bobbie, Morgan is hoping to change the conversation about motherhood from one of competition to one of confidence. She urges mothers not to measure their own experience against others but find joy in the uniqueness of their own journey.

“This campaign is all about replacing comparison with confidence and having no score in motherhood,” she stated, highlighting her vision for the initiative.

She is the first to admit that these last five years have really changed how she defines success. Morgan elaborated that during her time as an athlete, in order to reach certain goals she would need to compare herself with other athletes. Motherhood has helped her release the need to compare herself to anyone else and realize that she is on her own journey.

“And that’s how I’ve really tried to live my life over the last five years as I became a mom. It’s been a lot of learning about myself too throughout this process,” Morgan reflected.

Through her new campaign, she hopes to inspire other mothers to speak out. She’s fostering this warm little ecosystem where they all just get that they’re all doing their best.

A Legacy Beyond the Field

Morgan’s contributions to women’s soccer have not just come from her success on the field. She played a crucial role in securing a landmark equal pay deal for U.S. women’s soccer, advocating for fairness and equity in sports. This policy advocacy goes hand in hand with her dedication to help other mothers, as she does with her partnership with Bobbie.

Now, on the cusp of having her jersey retired, Morgan looks back on what this honor means.

“To have me be recognized and my jersey be forever retired—that does not happen often, not only with female athletes but athletes at all, so it’s a really proud moment.” – Alex Morgan

That party will serve a dual purpose of retiring her jersey and honoring her exceptional sports accomplishments. It will serve as recognition of her role as a potent symbol to aspiring female athletes and mothers.
