Achraf Hakimi Faces Potential Trial Over Alleged Rape Charges

French prosecutors have requested to proceed to trial against Achraf Hakimi. The 26-year-old Moroccan international who currently plies his trade with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been accused of raping multiple women. Background on the case, which centers on alleged retaliatory conduct occurring in February 2023. A 24-year-old woman alleged that Hakimi raped her after the pair connected through Instagram only weeks prior to the incident.

Hakimi was born in Madrid and came up through Real Madrid’s youth system. He was a key figure in Morocco’s historic run to the 2022 World Cup semifinals and is currently leading PSG’s pursuit of the club’s first Champions League trophy. He moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2018, with whom he made 73 appearances before completing a move to PSG.

In March 2023, French authorities charged Hakimi with rape. The complainant alleged that after paying for her transportation to his residence on Feb. 25, he made unwanted sexual advances. In police reports, the woman told authorities that Hakimi forced her to kiss him and then raped her.

Hakimi has firmly denied the allegations. His legal team claims to have no doubt as to the direction the proceedings are headed in.

“We, along with Achraf Hakimi, remain as calm as we were at the start of the proceedings.” – source not mentioned

The claims have sparked an intense wave of media backlash, in part due to Hakimi’s high-profile career, but more significantly due to severity of the allegations. Fanny Colin, representing the complainant, described the situation as “incomprehensible and senseless in light of the case’s elements,” highlighting the complexity and sensitivity surrounding the matter.

Rachel-Flore Pardo, Hakimi’s attorney, said they would use every means of appeal if prosecutors extend their demands. She’s even resolute to fight any future lawsuit against Hakimi.
