Abel Tesfaye Stars in Psychological Thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow

Abel Tesfaye, known professionally as The Weeknd, leads the cast of the upcoming psychological thriller “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” directed by Trey Edward Shults. The film is set to be released in theaters on May 16. It explores ideas of fame, heartbreak, and self-destruction, pulled from Tesfaye’s alleged real-life loss of voice during a 2022 concert.

In Hurry Up Tomorrow, Tesfaye works to make himself—and a fictionalized version of himself—whole. He explores the depths of despair of a music superstar, highlighting the loneliness that frequently accompanies success. He finds Jenna Ortega’s character, Amina—her nickname is Ani—during a talent show. All at once, he departs the stage in vocal anguish. Their initial meeting begat a tumultuous and contentious relationship. While Ani makes an incredible portrait of Tesfaye’s character, she challenges him to confront his inner demons and self-destructive ways.

Jenna Ortega, who plays Ani leads Ani in the new Netflix series, describes her character as “someone who eternally said no’s.
