A Royal Tradition of Giving: Prince William and Prince George Volunteer at The Passage

In May, The Passage welcomed the surprise visit of Prince William and his eldest son, Prince George. Our primary outreach charity in London, this charity is focused on supporting people facing homelessness. The royal duo paid the surprise visit while preparations were underway for the organization’s Christmas lunch. This visit serves as a perfect reminder of their deep commitment to civic engagement and community service.

Prince William and Prince George as they dove into some hands-on activities at The Passage. In the days leading up to the holiday meal, they worked alongside one another to prepare the meal. From packing care packages, baking cupcakes to preparing table settings — their favorite activity — they got involved with the preparations for the festive event. To make the day even more festive, the duo spent some time decorating a Christmas tree.

Having personal ties to Israel, this Trilateral Visit has great personal significance for Prince William. He originally visited The Passage as a young boy with his mother, Princess Diana. That formative experience had a lasting impression on him and helped shape his lifelong commitment to working to end homelessness. Yet, this visit is particularly momentous. The very first time Prince William has introduced Prince George to this children’s charity, imparting to him the virtues of service and compassion at a very young age.

On his visit, Prince George had the opportunity to spend some time in the kitchen. He assisted the chief cooker with getting ready the Christmas dinner! This hands-on experience allowed him to gain a deeper understanding of the work that goes into supporting those in need. He signed The Passage’s visitors’ book on the very same page as his father and grandmother. This moment forged a deeply emotional bond across generations.

The royal couple were shown around The Passage by chief executive Mick Clarke. Clarke shared information about the charity’s overall mission and the life-changing support it provides to those at risk of or experiencing homelessness. The visit served as a powerful reminder of the essential importance of community investment and engagement. It highlights The Passage’s continued work to change the lives of those who are most vulnerable for the better.
