Zoox, Amazon’s autonomous vehicle subsidiary, is continuing to make progress expanding its nascent robotaxi service. We’re thrilled to share some exciting news from our partner Steelcase! It’ll debut new operations in Austin and Miami while ramping up the services it already operates in Las Vegas and San Francisco. This expansion marks a crucial step in Zoox’s mission to provide accessible and efficient transportation through its fleet of self-driving vehicles.
At deployment in Las Vegas, Zoox will deploy with new rider pickup and drop-off locations, making it much more convenient for riders. Among the new sites are prominent spots such as the Las Vegas Convention Center and several hotels along the bustling Strip. This calculated step is intended to make Zoox’s services more visible and accessible—including to residents as well as tourists.
Service Enhancements in Existing Areas
As Zoox expands its operations in Las Vegas and San Francisco, it will offer services to a larger customer base in these areas. Until now, Zoox has been using retrofitted Toyota Highlander SUVs to create maps for new geographic areas that they’re planning on operating in. These machines were instrumental in capturing the grit and hustle of cities. So, too, are the regulators who paved the way for a seamless launch of that autonomous fleet. It’s this information gained through these mapping efforts that will inform the most strategic and effective new deployment strategies. This will improve service in both Las Vegas and San Francisco.
