Princess Kate Shows Competitive Spirit During Curling Challenge in Scotland

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, demonstrated her fierce spirit during an official trip to Scotland…with Prince William. The dynamic pair threw themselves into a world of different engagements. Most of all, they anticipated an epic curling duel, ready to demonstrate their on-ice prowess.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were treated to a brief five-minute curling demonstration by Scottish skips Bruce Mouat and Jennifer Dodds. Then, they got the invitation to go compete head-to-head. The competition was to determine who could get nearest the button, which is in the center of the building. The Princess of ice dancing glided effortlessly across the rink. Her classic plaid tailored coat was yet another example of her chic yet pragmatic approach to the outing.

Kate Middleton’s disastrous first try at curling She clapped her hands, laughed wickedly, admitted defeat, and promised to try harder. You could even hear her mutter, “Let’s go,” as she set up for the shot. With her first throw missing the target, the Princess was quick to ask, “Can we try again?” showing she was ready to try her best.

Spurred on by Prince William, Kate had to just suck it up. He coached her with advice, telling her to “just lean on both Catherine” as she set up for a re-try after her first miss. This time around, she managed to land that curling stone down the rink like a pro. Her success required no prompting celebration, as she punched the air before shaking high-five with Jennifer Dodds in joyous fulfillment.

The couple’s competitive streak was apparent in their efforts. Each of them had two sweepers running to guide their stones through the ice. Their playful teasing and love for the game reminded me of the joy and delight that comes from being connected to the practice and one another.
