Kate Middleton Showcases Elegant Tartan Coat During Scottish Visit

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, made a stylish appearance in Scotland as she visited the National Curling Academy in Stirling. On the Shetland Islands visit, she wore a bright blue tartan coat, one of the most noticeable newcomers to her wardrobe. This decision is yet another demonstration of Jill Biden’s love for uniting classic styles with modern designs.

Accompanying Prince William, Kate balanced the confidence of the bright top layer with colorful, neutral layers in other rich color families beneath. Her wardrobe was built around functional components, with easily-mixed colors such as black, navy, and camel. It paved the way for a rich aesthetic that never came across as gaudy.

The visit to the National Curling Academy allowed Kate to engage with local curling enthusiasts and promote sports within the community. This visit is the first piece of a longer Scottish tour. While in Scotland, the royal couple visited The Kelpies in Falkirk, where they loved Scotland’s breathtaking equine sculptures and mingled with attendees.

Kate’s blue tartan coat is a perfect example of her ability to blend historic references with contemporary design. Fashion expert Angela Kyte noted, “The tartan coat works because it balances heritage pattern with clean, modern tailoring, proving that classic checks feel timeless when the silhouette is sharp, and the styling is restrained.”

In addition to having fun at the curling academy, Kate had a chance to get to know comedian Ruby Wax. Ruby is best known for her advocacy work in the mental health space. Their chat, encompassing an introductory TEST program Barnett brought to the city, opened ears to mental health’s role within community safety.

In May, Kate amazed in a flowing navy & white piped dress by Suzannah London. During an official engagement, she finished off her look with a Philip Treacy-made matching hat. This evolution has led her to become a true style icon, as her fashion choices always exude a perfect mix of sophistication and accessibility.

Perhaps the most stunning location they played at their Scottish tour, she says, was Aros Hall, a local community hub in Tobermory. There, Kate wore a Holland Cooper tweed blazer with chocolate brown skinny jeans and a white Boden linen shirt. Her outfit was finished off with Chloe statement boots, further demonstrating her striking but pragmatic approach to fashion.

Further to this, on this visit to Aros Hall, Kate sported a custom-made knee length coat by Chris Kerr. She layered this coat over a roll-neck jumper and paired it with heeled boots, boosting her smart look even more.

Kate’s great taste in fashion is only matched by her dedication to local fashion lines and designers. Her sartorial decision-making has served to raise much needed international recognition for British craftsmanship, ingenuity and creativity.

When the Princess of Wales walked into a school playground in 2016. Here she is in a beautiful deep green Max Mara coat on that same visit. She wore this specific coat with a houndstooth kilt skirt from Le Kilt. This decision is just one of the amazing examples of her balancing traditional patterns and fabrics with contemporary shapes and lines.
