Game icon Sophie Turner has been cast as Lara Croft. She’ll be starring in the forthcoming Prime Video series based on the global video game juggernaut “Tomb Raider” franchise. This new adaptation promises to follow the thrilling adventures of the world-famous archaeologist and adventurer as she takes on her next quest.
The series reunites an exceptional production team, led by creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Chad Hodge will join her as co-showrunner and executive producer. At the same time, Get Shorty’s Jonathan Van Tulleken will replace Condon as director and executive producer. Here’s hoping their collaboration can infuse a new and exciting perspective on Lara Croft’s classic story.
Turner’s casting undoubtedly introduces an exhilarating new chapter to the character’s legacy. So many great actresses have played this role in the past. Angelina Jolie first donned Croft’s signature look in 2001’s “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and its sequel, “The Cradle of Life” in 2003. Alicia Vikander would go on to star as the character in the 2018 reboot of the franchise, called Tomb Raider.
Outside of Turner, this new series has a seriously impressive cast that reaffirms the promise Turner has shown so far. Joining her are Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein. This dynamic troupe of storytellers is dedicated to expanding the storytelling possibilities for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
In her release announcing her appointment, Turner said she was excited at the prospect of going from protestor to policymaker.
“She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got,” – Sophie Turner.
>In the initial production still, Turner can be seen portraying the character of Lara Croft. She’s wearing a green tank top, black shorts and trendy red-tinted sunglasses. The character’s signature gun holsters complete her adventurous look, while Turner’s hair is pulled back from her face, emphasizing her readiness for action.
As Prime Video gears up for this series, anticipation builds for how it will reinterpret the beloved character and her exploits. The show represents a renewed commitment to bringing Lara Croft’s story to life in a way that resonates with contemporary audiences.
