Local Students Spread Holiday Cheer with Creative Card Designs

Students from every school in Hull have let their imaginations run riot this festive period. As part of a friendly competition to celebrate, they submitted colorful Christmas card designs to the local authority. One of the other really talented young artists is Orla, who’s a student at St Mary’s College. Her design transports viewers to a magical factory full of mischievous elves and presents her colorful, playful take on the holiday spirit.

Orla’s card features the caption “Father Christmas Loves Chip Spice,” which captures the essence of Hull’s culinary culture. A seasonal classic At the top of her illustration, the words Father Christmas loves chip spice jump out at you in decorative letters, setting the festive tone. To the strange child-like world she is creating, she adds a playfulness by adding a little rat. Over its head, a speech bubble says, “Squeak, squeak, squeak! This delightful quirk interestingly contributes a little levity to her design.

Along with Orla’s creative design, Olivia—another local student from Thanet Primary School—brought her design to life with her own imaginative card. Olivia’s design depicts a colorful sleigh with creative rats in the lead. This finalist idea highlights the unusual, creative, out-of-the-box approach that students were challenged to take.

The local authority organized this card design competition to engage schoolchildren across the city and invite them to add a “Hull twist” to traditional Christmas themes. The program is designed to encourage experimentation and creative expression in young people while exploring traditional local culture during the holiday season.

“The results really prove the young people in our city are full of creativity and imagination, and I’d like to thank everyone who submitted their entry.” – Mike Ross

We hope these designs from such talented young artists fill the hearts of all those who find them. They shine a light on the amazing creative talent doing amazing creative things in our community. The cards will finally be distributed to constituents by the council during their regular holiday season outreach events.
