Jessica Simpson is breaking back onto the scene in a big way. She stars in the Ryan Murphy–directed new series All’s Fair. The much-anticipated show officially launched on Hulu on Tuesday night, with Simpson appearing in her first episode in the third installment of the series. This will be her first role outside of reality television since she last appeared on scripted TV in 2010 on “Entourage.”
At the world premiere of “All’s Fair” in Los Angeles, California, Simpson shared her enthusiasm about the pivotal role. She shared that she’s considered her character “damn-near every day since” first assuming the role. This role is a big departure for her. She really gained national popularity starring in such vehicle films as Employee of the Month and The Dukes of Hazzard during the early 2000s.
Simpson’s character is a woman married to a rock star. The pop star is almost unrecognizable due to plastic surgery that she has undergone in an attempt to regain a youthful appearance. In order to embody this painful, radical metamorphosis, she donned “a bunch of prosthetics,” which intensified her crystalline performance. She called the process “empowering,” noting the emotional depth of the character.
During her interview with “Good Morning America,” Simpson reflected on her initial reaction upon receiving the call from Ryan Murphy. She stated, “When you get a call from Ryan Murphy, you definitely say yes.” This enthusiasm was clearly felt as she answered questions and discussed the challenges and joys of taking on such a complicated role.
Simpson admitted that she was “stunned” by the opportunity to take on a character that diverged from the typical perceptions of her previous roles. She noted, “I did not expect it. And I was shocked because it wasn’t like the ditzy dumb blonde type of role. It wasn’t even comedic. It was very emotional.”
The series is the rare platform to showcase a virtuosic cast of talented women. Among them are Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash-Betts, Teyana Taylor, Sarah Paulson, and Glenn Close. Simpson’s involvement, in particular, is creating significant excitement as fans tune in to the weekly release of new episodes.
“I wish I could do it all over again,” she said, reminiscing on the good times had while shooting. Today you can watch all three installments of “All’s Fair” on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. We’ll be releasing episodes every Tuesday so stay tuned!
