The fight had initially been set for November 14 in Miami, Florida. Now, for fear of the ongoing and arduous legal battle, it is officially canned.
The other notable, YouTuber-turned-professional-boxer Jake Paul, rocketed to fame. In the main event, he took on retired heavyweight icon Mike Tyson on November 15, 2024, in Arlington, Texas. In that time, he has become one of the most influential figures in boxing today. He’s leveraged that worldwide fame to tour-ring through his event-producing organization, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP).
The lead-up to the fight against Davis was especially historic because the two athletes would be competing at a massive weight disparity of over 20 pounds. Paul mostly fights at cruiserweight, roughly 50 pounds over Davis’s calling weight of 135 pounds. Despite this mismatch, the fight was approved by the relevant boxing commissions.
The legal complications around Davis led MVP to re-evaluate. In an email statement, the organization made clear that their primary focus was on Miami-Dade’s recently filed lawsuit, which they were actively investigating. As with any concert under such circumstances, as a result of the cancellation, fans who bought tickets through Ticketmaster will get refunds.
Though this particular matchup has not materialized, Jake Paul continues to make waves in the boxing world. He’s scheduled to be headliner for another event later this year that will be streamed on Netflix. Information about his new opponent, the date and venue of this upcoming match will be announced as soon as it is confirmed.
