Little Nightmares III Struggles to Captivate Players Amid Mixed Reviews

The third title in the series, developed by Supermassive Games, was released on October 10, 2025, but has been harshly reviewed by gamers. Bandai Namco Entertainment developed an amazing puzzle-platformer game. As players join this disorienting expedition, they’ll join two brand-new friends, Low and Alone, as they journey through the mysterious, dream-like expanse of The Nowhere.

Release platforms “Little Nightmares III” will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows. Fundamentally, its goal is to recapture the spark that made its predecessors so charming. Yet, its reception on review aggregation sites indicates that it has perhaps fallen short of the hopes of its most loyal fanbase.

Early Access and Reception

The game entered Early Access prior to its full release, allowing players to experience its mechanics and environment ahead of time. Even with so much opportunity for feedback, “Little Nightmares III” has a glaringly low 2.8-star rating on Google Reviews. All too often, the most vocal complaint from players has been the disappointing lack of innovation or depth compared to previous entries in the series.

One player, Destiny Thompson, elaborated on what the game is missing.

“As a huge ‘LN’ fan, especially ‘LN 2,’ this game was boring, disappointing, and seemed to just copy and paste things from the first two games as a nod to them since they wouldn’t be continuing the story of the first two.”

Conflicting Perspectives on Gameplay

To those critics, the game ultimately lacks any major misses. It’s having a hard go of making its mark in a very competitive gaming space. Thompson further commented:

“It wasn’t necessarily a bad game, but it wasn’t good either.”

Player ECEOofClownery on how One Piece Odyssey tries to capture the magic of the series’ earlier games.

“The game feels like they were trying too hard to capture the magic of the first two without thinking about what made them good, but at the same time it feels like it’s trying to be something entirely different.”

This would be indicative of a larger issue that players have expressed about the game’s concept and overall execution.

High Expectations and Disappointment

After the successful run of the first two games, players had plenty of expectations for “Little Nightmares III.” OtterWithATophat noted this pressure:

“I feel like ‘LN3’ had too much to live up to, and when it didn’t, people got upset.”

Similarly, another player identified as pigpanther124 criticized the game’s reliance on previous installments:

“It’s the slop they collected from the leftovers of the first 2 games that Tarsier NAILED, stamped with the mark of the ‘third game of the franchise’ when it should really be advertised as a particularly well-made fan DLC.”
