Actress Lori Loughlin, former star of “Full House,” recently completed a two-month prison sentence. She was sentenced to this consequence because of her role in a broad, nationwide college admissions scandal. Her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, was sentenced to five months in the same case. This scandal implicated 53 individuals for allegedly paying to influence undergraduate admissions decisions at prestigious U.S. universities, including the University of Southern California (USC).
In 2019, Loughlin and Giannulli were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit fraud. They had paid $500,000 to kick back their daughters as Div I rowers in order to get them into USC under the radar. Both actors pleaded guilty to wire and mail fraud charges in May 2020. Loughlin pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy. At the same time, Giannulli pleaded guilty, agreeing to one count of conspiracy and two counts of honest services wire and mail fraud.
Recently, John Stamos, who has known Loughlin for 40 years, expressed his unwavering support for her during this challenging time. On a “Good Guys” podcast, he referred to Loughlin as “an angel.” He talked about how they worked together, and he stood by her side as she failed. Stamos, who has known Loughlin since their days on the WB, apparently had his own feelings about Giannulli.
“Forty years I’ve known her. You can see through people after a few years. This woman’s a saint.” – John Stamos
Stamos said he was “just so heartbroken for” Loughlin. He emphasized that he made efforts to support her during the college scandal, saying, “I really tried to be there for her during this time, and with the college scandal.”
So Stamos took it upon himself to defend Loughlin’s character. He’s as convinced as she is that she never really understood the scope of it all. “And I know she didn’t,” he said, pointing to Loughlin’s role in the scandal.
Giannulli and Stamos have gone their separate ways. For one, Stamos has ruled out getting back together with Giannulli in the near future, or even at all. He characterized Giannulli as a “very successful dude” but stated firmly, “Look, he’s a very successful dude. I will never talk to him again.”
Stamos offered a humorous glimpse into Loughlin’s prison stay. He laughed as he remembered her hilarious reply when he’d first asked how her trip had gone. He recounted, “In typical Lori fashion, I said, ‘How was it?’ She goes, ‘You know, I met a lot of nice ladies in there. We have a book club.’”
Stamos was speaking out just after Loughlin and Giannulli recently decided to separate. He was concerned that the separation, after 28 years of marriage, would further impact Loughlin’s health. He stated, “I said, ‘Look, all the negativity or hard hardships that you’ve been through in your life is connected to this guy.’”
