Wendy Osefo, a public intellectual and activist who made her mark on the popular reality TV series “The Real Housewives of Potomac,” is currently in legal hot water. She and her husband, Edward Osefo, were indicted on 14 counts of fraud. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland reported the couple’s arrest on October 9, 2025, a day after Osefo attended the 2025 Billboard Women in Music event at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California.
According to the sheriff’s office, the Osefos have been accused of making false police statements in April. They lied about stealing someone’s property while vacationing in Mexico. The couple were arrested and booked in, but it was not long before they bonded out. Their booking photos—which we believe are now authorized for release by law enforcement—are included here.
Wesleyan University corroborated to “Good Morning America” that Osefo no longer works there after her arrest. There was some confusion over this, as a spokesperson for Osefo quickly told the press that she had not been fired from her university job.

The representative further stated that Osefo “formally submitted her letter of resignation prior to any public announcement made by the university before any external reports surfaced.” This goes to show that her exit from Wesleyan had nothing to do with any legal fallout from the fraud charges. She decided this all on her own.
The negative backlash and controversy surrounding the Osefos have affected their TV show appearances. Their new show, “RHOPWife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition,” which was set to debut on October 14, has now been delayed until October 21. This pause arrives against a backdrop of continued public pressure tied to their current legal woes.
