In May 2018, Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in an extravagant ceremony that attracted international attention. The service was held at St George’s Chapel, located within the historic grounds of Windsor Castle. The couple’s marriage was a cause for great celebration among the community. Most importantly, it brought together the incredible rainbow of family, friends, and distinguished guests from all walks of life that surrounded them.
Doria Ragland, the bride’s mother, who proudly witnessed her daughter pledge herself. The royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II and other members, were in attendance to mark the special occasion. Her wedding became a destination wedding and drew nearly 2,200 guests. Hundreds turned out to see the groundbreaking ceremony and participate in the celebration.
The nearly-alliterative, star-studded affair sparkled with A-list luminaries. Amal Clooney stole the show, dazing in a bespoke canary yellow Stella McCartney dress. David Beckham took our breath away in his impeccable, tailored three-piece suit from Dior Homme. He definitely brought the sparkle to that day! Their presence drove home the notion that this royal wedding had genuine appeal that went far beyond the royal family itself.
One of our most illustrious visitors was a member of the royal family, the Duchess of Kent, Katharine Worsley. Though she was a shut in for much of her later years, she made an exception for this historic event. The Duchess certainly stole the show in her beautiful gown, created by designer John Cavanagh. She completed her quiet glamour with the Kent Diamond and Pearl Fringe Tiara, a jewel of mesmerizing beauty and rich royal lore.
Born in 1933, Katharine Worsley married her husband, the Duke of Kent, when she was only 24 years old. Together, they raised three children: George Windsor, Earl of St. Andrews, Lady Helen Taylor, and Lord Nicholas Windsor. Their family has since grown to ten grandchildren, including Lady Amelia Windsor and Lady Marina Windsor.
Their wedding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding was a deeply personal and ideological victory for the couple. It painted for us a picture of royal traditions that remain strong while very much aligning with today’s celebrity culture. The variety of attendees reflected a beautiful mix of those worlds. This did much to illustrate how royal occasions in the new royal era can combine traditional majesty with contemporary pizzazz.
