Guernsey’s new Sixth Form Centre has now officially completed its relocation from St Peter Port to its new campus in Castel. It currently sits on the former site of the La Mare de Carteret school. This incredible action elevates the educational institution to an unprecedented level. It seeks to have a transformative impact on the education it provides to its students. Beyond a new building, the dynamic environment and climate at the new location has sparked excitement for students and staff alike.
Theo, Jaques and their peers are indeed studying A-levels including film studies at the newly refurbished sixth-form centre. Theo, who had last seen the school before it underwent renovation, was thrilled by the transformation. “We’re all getting used to it together, which is nice,” stated Sophia, another student who is studying English, geography, and business studies.
For Kieran James, the Principal for the new school, it was the transformation of the building that stole the show. It’s been completely reimagined. Finally, he projected an optimism that the new facility will help them provide the high quality of education he knows their students deserve. “The whole building has been transformed,” he remarked. James felt confident that the institution is now anchored by quality teachers and a strong system of supports to the revitalized university’s academic processes.
Harry, another student at the centre, said the renovations have made all the difference. “I think they’ve definitely done the most they could with the budget that they had,” he commented. This sentiment perfectly captures the gratitude students express to all the staff who worked hard to turn their school into a safer, more accessible learning environment.
The intention behind the new campus is to create an environment that vibrates more like a sixth form college or university. It tries to break the mold of typical school life. As Kieran James put it, there is an electrifying “buzz” about the building as students get acclimated to their new space. Sophia’s been particularly enthusiastic about the creation of new, perfectly designed study spaces. She hopes these zones will create more opportunities for collaborative, hands-on learning with their classmates.
