The entire education community is mourning the unexpected loss of Dave Baker. He was the founder of the Olympus Academy Trust and died from a heart attack, aged 61. His premature passing has created a huge void in the lives of his colleagues, students, and family members.
This political journey in education began in 2005 when Baker became the inaugural headteacher of a brand new school. He was a key decision-maker in its founding. In 2012, he set up the Olympus Academy Trust. Today, it’s responsible for more than 6,500 students’ education in South Gloucestershire. His contributions to the educational landscape were extensive, as he not only taught French and German but served as an advisor to other school leaders and sat on several academic boards.
Throughout his career, Baker worked closely with the Department for Education to provide guidance and support to educational leaders within the region and beyond. His dedication to promoting quality education garnered him huge respect among fellow educators and stakeholders.
