Amanda Knox and Monica Lewinsky Collaborate on New Series Exploring Personal Journeys

Complementary Voices Executive produced by Monica Lewinsky and Amanda Knox. Join the duo as they continue to work together on their new eight-part limited series “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.” The series, which premiered on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+, explores Knox’s harrowing experience, including her wrongful conviction for murder in Italy. The first two episodes are already up for you to watch.

Knox achieved international fame in 2007 over accusations that she had committed the murder of fellow student Meredith Kercher. In 2009, an Italian court found both her and Raffaele Sollecito guilty, which resulted in four years in an Italian prison. But both convictions were overturned on appeal in 2011, and Knox was finally acquitted in 2015. This tumultuous legal battle, including a reconviction in 2014 by Italy’s highest court, serves as the backdrop for the new series.

On August 18, 2025, both Knox and Lewinsky appeared on “Good Morning America” to discuss the series and its profound themes.

“I had a first-look television deal at the time, and I thought, aha! Another young woman who had suffered in the media, had been feasted on on the world stage, and luckily, like a savvy executive, she got all the yeses, and we were off to the races.” – Monica Lewinsky

The partnership between Knox and Lewinsky is unique for just how interesting the material is. It further amplifies the unique perspectives that each of these women contribute. Yet at the same time, they both endured major media fires that defined the public image projected on them.

Knox weighed in on the difficulty of coming back to her experience with the series’ creative team. Being involved with “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.” She said joining the film allowed her to deal with her feelings. It was an incredibly transformative experience for her.

“It felt like I was allowed to grieve for the first time, because it was outside of myself, and I got to watch myself and these people portray this journey,” Knox said. “It was as if I was there … and I was grieving in a big way for the first time in ways that I wasn’t able to.”

The series tells a bigger story than the courtroom drama you might expect — a story of personal struggles, strength and endurance.

“It’s not just a courtroom drama; it’s not your typical true crime biopic,” Knox explained. “It’s a more personal journey and one that really begins with the story of what happens before — and then, of course, what happens after the worst experience of your life.”

Both Knox and Lewinsky expressed their commitment to ensuring that the series conveyed a wider perspective on their individual stories. Knox emphasized this collaborative vision.

“And I think that the thing that we actually were both most interested in was making sure that this show had a wider lens,” she stated.

The goal of the series is to retell Knox’s brutal legal fight. It spotlighted the individual drama of two young women to make their way through their troubled personal lives.

“Everyone on this project understood that this is a story about two young women who went to go study abroad in Perugia, Italy, and only one of them survived,” Knox noted.

As viewers engage with “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox,” they will witness a multifaceted narrative that intertwines personal turmoil with public scrutiny.
