Princess Marie Dazzles at Copenhagen Cooking Festival with Her Children

Princess Marie of Denmark stole the show at the capital’s Copenhagen Cooking festival. As the event’s royal patron, Zara’s presence celebrated a wonderful homecoming after a six-year hiatus. The 49-year-old royal invited her children, Count Henrik, 16, and Countess Athena, 13. As a pair, they jumped right into the food-filled fun and enjoyed every second of it!

Princess Marie’s fashionable choice for the occasion featured a sky blue blazer paired with a white cami top and flared stone-colored trousers, showcasing her elegant style. Her children’s presence added a familial warmth to the event, highlighting the close-knit bond the family shares despite their recent move to Washington D.C.

Beyond attending the festival, Princess Marie has been quite busy with other community events. Last week she toured Positivgruppen in Frederiksberg. This nonprofit organization is committed to serving and supporting HIV-positive gay and bisexual men. She visited the Danish Emergency Management Agency, a model of multifunctional infrastructure. We’re looking to see more of these kinds of social issue-focused, welfare promoting visits from Ms.

Spoiler alert—since 2023 the royal family have settled in Washington D.C. This action came on the heels of Prince Joachim being named the defense industry attaché at the Danish Embassy in Washington. In the wake of this transition, the family has experienced mixed feelings. As they made clear in Prince Joachim’s recent comments about their homesickness for Denmark,

“We have a desire to come home. But we also do not rule out the possibility of staying abroad. Now we have to see. For now, it is on our radar, when the post here stops, we will return home.”

To describe the emotional toll of their displacement, he continued,

“Overall, we can all feel it, and we can also feel it in the children, that it is at home in Denmark that we have our largest social base. We can’t travel back and forth, after all, there is a six-hour time difference and an entire ocean in between. We take our time when we are home and enjoy it to the fullest. Perhaps that is the band-aid for being far away from home.”

Prince Joachim encourages speculation about a future return to Denmark. This indicates a desire on his part to return to his formative influences after years of living internationally. The couple shares two older sons from Prince Joachim’s previous marriage—Count Nikolai, 25, and Count Felix, 23—adding to the family’s dynamic.

Princess Marie and her children had a blast at the Copenhagen Cooking festival. Their ongoing participation serves as a reminder of their individual joy and helps to continue the family’s connection with Danish culture and community, even with the difficulty of distance and time zones.
