First-Time Mom from El Paso Welcomes Quintuplets

Theresa Troia, a 36-year-old nurse consultant from El Paso, Texas, welcomed her quintuplets on June 3. At Las Palmas Medical Center, the babies were delivered by cesarean section. These are not just numbers—their names are Kyla Rose, Joseph Anthony, Jaxon Thomas, Viviana Lily and Isabella Gianna. This extraordinary delivery is the first set of quintuplets born at the hospital.

Troia, who is a quadruplet herself, just found out she was having quintuplets in January. She recounted how healthy her pregnancy was overall, including her first trimester bleeding. I didn’t experience any nausea, vomiting, cravings, none of that. I didn’t have any swelling. So I was really lucky,” she stated.

The quintuplets were born at 28 weeks and 1 day. Aaron Poole, OB-GYN, maternal fetal medicine. Dr. Poole is part of HCA Healthcare’s Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare. He was instrumental as one of Troia’s physicians. He emphasized the significance of this birth, saying, “The birth of Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare’s first set of quintuplets is a rare and special moment, and we’re proud to have provided the high level of care necessary to support Theresa and her babies from delivery through recovery.”

“Bringing five newborns safely into the world took thoughtful planning and close coordination, demonstrating the expertise and commitment our maternal and neonatal teams bring to every patient,” Dr. Poole added.

Today, all five babies are developing normally. Troia happily announced that three of her quintuplets—Kyla, Isabella, and Jaxon—have already gone home. Their NICU stay prior to discharge was an average of 10 weeks. They’re all doing fabulously and they’re all growing. You’d never know that they were preemie babies or quintuplets because they’re doing so, so good,” she said.

Troia’s experience as a quadruplet has influenced her view on the experience of motherhood. “To me, the normal is multiples, you know, because I don’t obviously know any different,” she said. To hear her, she is thrilled with the prospect of a new family dynamic, having come from a childhood of sharing a home with many siblings.

Troia gave voice to the emotional side of her experience. “My mom passed away 10 years ago, so I haven’t been able to talk to her about it, but now I get to see what it was for her, which I think is a beautiful thing,” she stated.

“That leap from no to five kids,” says Troia, “has been exhilarating but overwhelming. It’s surreal, scary at the same time, because it’s zero to five, immediate. It’s an instant family, but it’s beautiful,” she concluded.
