Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Son Faces Serious Criminal Charges

Marius Borg Hoiby, the firstborn son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, is in deep legal hot water. He has been acoustic guitar, and harmonica. On Wednesday, authorities laid out the charges, which come to 32 counts in all. These shocking charges detail horrifying accusations against the young royal.

The indictment against Marius Borg Hoiby includes charges of domestic abuse against a former partner, several counts of violence, and disturbing the peace. Moreover, he’s been charged with vandalizing and breaking two restraining orders involving a different ex-partner. Specifically, and most egregiously, he’s been charged with filming the genitals of at least seven women, some as young as 15, without their knowledge or consent.

Marius Borg Hoiby at his arrest in August 2024. He’s accused of committing a psychological and physical assault on a young woman in her 20s. Following his first arrest, he expressed remorse, stating, “Last weekend something happened that should never have happened.”

The events turned tragic when he was re-arrested a month later for supposedly breaking a restraining order. The seriousness of these crimes have resulted in much public outcry and condemnation from the legal community.

Noted legal analyst Sturla Henriksbo noted the broader impact of the charges. He stated, “These are very serious acts that can leave lasting scars and destroy lives.” He emphasized that the royal connection should not influence the judicial process: “The fact that Marius Borg Hoiby is a member of the royal family should, of course, not mean that he should be treated more lightly or more severely than if similar acts had been committed by others.”

If convicted of the charges against him, Marius Borg Hoiby could face a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison. For Crown Princess Mette-Marit, this has to be a trying period as she deals with her son’s legal issues. The media is covering her moves with a rabid and deep level of scrutiny.
