Teen Takeover Set to Energize Scunthorpe with Free Summer Activities

The town of Scunthorpe is gearing up for an exciting event, as the Teen Takeover is scheduled to take place on 20 August from 11:00 to 16:00 BST. This fantastic scheme is one of many being delivered as part of North Lincolnshire Council’s wider summer activities program. It will provide innovative, unique, and fun experiences that will draw youth from every corner of the community.

Our Teen Takeover will take place across several thrilling locations! We hope to see you at the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Gardens, the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, and the Scunthorpe Central Library. You don’t have to register to participate in all of the great activities. With all the activities absolutely free, it’s a recipe for a perfect day of family fun!

At the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Gardens, attendees can look forward to a roller rink disco, a BMX versus Parkour stunt show, and interactive music sessions provided by The School of Beatbox. These lively programs draw local teens in by meeting them where they are. This is equal part opportunity, as they serve as a stage for these young people to shine on.

One of the other Teen Takeover highlights is Imagi-con. This fun-filled day is loaded with sci-fi personalities, cosplay, crafts, face painting, DJs and gaming. This one-of-a-kind experience is designed to draw teens in and families too, adding to the palpable sense of community.

Councillor Rob Waltham expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Teen Takeover is a fantastic example of how we are supporting young people with free, engaging activities that have been designed around what they have told us they want to see.” He further emphasized the positive impact of such events on local businesses by adding, “It’s a great boost for the town centre, bringing hundreds of young people and families into Scunthorpe for the day, which we hope will provide a real benefit to local shops, cafés and other businesses.”

The Teen Takeover occurs when school is out of session. This timing provides young people with the ideal opportunity to spend an entire day engaging in learned exchanges and vibrant activities—all for free and without cost being a barrier. It’s these relationships that the event will nurture — between communities, youth, and families. The event will shine a light on local talent through live music performances by youth artists.
