Revolutionizing Audio: Alexander Talashov and the GPU Audio Journey

Alexander Talashov, co-founder and CEO of GPU Audio, has set out on an innovative path. He’s integrating graphics processing units (GPUs) with real-time audio processing. His vision to be a pioneer in reimagining sound technology has led him to create groundbreaking solutions for multiple industries with special concentration on automotive. Talashov has deep roots in technical engineering. His rich and varied experience in programming have made him the perfect man to helm this game-changing project.

Talashov went on to graduate from Russia’s premier technical university, the Bauman University of Technology, where he concentrated in Wi-Fi and 5G hardware. This early education laid a deep intellectual foundation in the study of complex technical systems, which he would later bring to bear on audio technologies. His own passion for GPU programming set him on that path. This spark of passion caused him to revolutionize the sound processing.

Prior to launching GPU Audio, Talashov was chief software architect for Pickpoint, a last-mile logistics company. During his time there, he created and scripted Philadelphia’s first mass-update system. Even further, this pioneering system automatically deployed new firmware and graphical user interfaces (GUIs) to all kiosks simultaneously. This experience sharpened his skills in systems integration and software development.

As a parallel to his profession, Talashov started programming high-frequency trading bots on the side as a hobby. This project allowed him to use GPU computing in practice. Most importantly, it deepened his passion for harnessing technology to tackle today’s most complex tasks. He had realized that real-time audio processing could be done on those same principles, and this realization would lead him to his entrepreneurial dreams.

Shortly after leaving his position at Pickpoint, Talashov encountered his future co-founder. This algae passed through a seasoned sound engineer with over 20 years of touring under his belt. The duo plunged into a deep cycle of experimentation from 2012 to about 2015. From producing those prototypes, they learned a lot of lessons from failing prototypes. They doggedly chased after breakthrough technologies, and all their efforts were eventually rewarded. They created the first of its kind novel Digital Signal Processing (DSP) framework allowing for fully real-time audio DSP algorithms to run on GPUs.

To share their progress and build a community around their technology, Talashov’s team published demo videos on YouTube and engaged with users on Reddit. This outreach resulted in a growing community of tens of thousands of followers who contributed feedback and supported their developments.

In 2022, Talashov attracted a gargantuan amount of attention from the tech scene. He introduced himself to the public at NVIDIA GTC and introduced his cutting-edge Scheduler technology. This unique multifaceted solution has the potential to radically improve audio processing power for all audio experiences by intelligently and seamlessly allocating resources across all devices.

GPU Audio has officially secured our first customer! Consider this — one of the Big Three automakers has announced plans to embed its platform into as many as 100,000 to 1 million vehicles annually. Talashov’s innovative approach to sound technology delivers notable advancements, including 5–12 decibels of zone suppression at the listener’s position across a frequency range of 250 Hz to 8 kHz. This innovation greatly improves audio fidelity in cars, opening the doors to more accurate and immersive sound environments.

From day one, Talashov has shown extraordinary grit and an unbendable dedication to invention. What his work at GPU Audio is proving what’s possible with that technology. Above all, it celebrates the incredible partnership between engineers and sound wizards. That intersection of these disciplines has the power to redefine, refresh the experience of audio on stages, screens and more.
