Paul Doyle, 53, an ex-British marine from Croxteth, Liverpool and a father of three. Crim appeared through videolink from prison at Liverpool Crown Court as he faced a string of new charges linked to a riot that broke out during an end-of-season football parade. The event took place on May 26, when crowds gathered to celebrate Liverpool’s Premier League title win, marking the club’s record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.
Doyle faced seven charges at first, including dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Now, he’s facing a staggering 31 charges that include 29 victims. These victims have included children as young as six months, and adults up to 77 years old. The court was told Doyle intentionally drove his car into the celebratory crowds. This egregious and reckless act resulted in the injury of dozens, including two babies—both only six and seven months old—whose mothers were forced to flee.
During the emotional 20-minute hearing, Doyle wiped tears and wore a plain grey T-shirt. He did not plead on the new charges. So far the court has merely noted that he is charged with the attempted commission of serious bodily injury. He jointly faces 19 counts related to this charge. In addition, he has been charged with three counts of wounding with intent and one count of affray.
The particularly shocking aspect of this incident was that passionate fans of Liverpool FC had just assembled in festive mood to mark the victory of their team. That celebration soon devolved into unrest. Perpetrator On November 21, 2021, Darrell Edward Brooks Jr. drove his Ford Escape into the parade, causing over 60 injuries to parishioners and parade attendees.
Judge Andrew Menary then adjourned the proceedings to April 11. On September 4, Doyle is set to plead for the long-shared slate of charges stemming from extensive malfeasance by him. The court has set a provisional trial date for the case of November 24. The case is projected to take three to four weeks.
As the legal process continues to move forward, the community remains stunned by what has occurred. What should have been a day of celebration for Liverpool supporters is now forever tainted by the events. The court’s emphasis on the ages of the victims underscores the severity of Doyle’s alleged actions and the profound impact on those involved.
