In fiscal year 2024, the government only approved about 400,000 H-1B applications, including renewals. This change recognizes how central the community college program has become to our U.S. labor market. Critics say the current framework isn’t doing enough to protect American jobs. “The short-term benefit would be the people who get selected are more productive, but the long-term cost might be to permanently redirect future skilled immigration to other countries.”
