Teacher Banned for Inappropriate Communications with Student

Kerim Brown, a 44-year-old former educator, is now subject to a lifetime ban from the teaching profession. This extreme penance comes on the heels of grave charges for allegedly indecent correspondence with a student. Brown, an ex-teacher at Garth Hill College in Bracknell, Berkshire, contacted the lad on social media. He leveraged Instagram to draw that parallel. The events go back to 2014 when he worked at Waingels College in Woodley.

The panel closely scrutinized the allegations through the trial. They determined that Brown had sent several communications to the student, even sending a topless selfie. Notably, one of the messages sent by Brown read, “I’m not allowed to communicate with students whilst they’re on roll. As soon as you’re not… you’re in trouble.” More importantly, this acknowledgment demonstrates his mindful recognition of the lines that he violated in his relationship with the student.

Brown was not present at the hearing and had no representation, which restricted his ability to contest the charges. Highlighting the seriousness behind charges that have been proven, Sarah Buxcey, a Ministry of Justice and Department for Education representative, noted that the allegations are serious. She stated that the seriousness of Brown’s actions necessitated a prohibition order to uphold public confidence in the teaching profession.

“In my view, it is necessary to impose a prohibition order in order to maintain public confidence in the profession,” – Sarah Buxcey

The panel’s conclusions resulted in a ruling that Brown be permanently banned from teaching. As a result, he cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation, or children’s home within England.

This case is meant to underscore how serious we are about maintaining the highest professional standards. We strongly believe that student safety and well-being should be at the forefront of any K-12 school. The case brought forth the evidence in the case and the final decision signal a strong intolerance for predator behavior from within the educator ranks.
