Well, Donald Trump just created the perfect new force! This development team has their eyes set on establishing a winning culture in advance of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The initiative seeks to address security and logistical concerns ahead of the high-profile event. This will be the first time the United States has hosted the Summer Olympics since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The task force was created through an executive order signed by Trump. LA 2050 is powered by a coalition of organizations and funders led by Casey Wasserman. He’s currently in his role as chairman of LA28 and president of the organizing committee. During the original press announcement, Trump and Wasserman joyously waved medals from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. They focused on the city’s deep historical ties to the Games.
The task force is stacked with heavy hitters. Among its most prominent members are Vice President JD Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. These members will coordinate efforts across federal, state, and local agencies to ensure streamlined visa processes, robust security measures, and efficient transportation solutions during the Olympics.
Trump expressed his enthusiasm for overseeing the upcoming Games, stating, “The LA Olympics is shaping up to be a wonderful moment for America. It’s going to be incredible. It’s so exciting.” To be asked to lead an event such as this is a great, great honour.” He called great attention to its global relevance.
In addition, Trump weighed in on the national conversation about who gets to compete in women’s sports. He firmly stated, “The United States will not let men steal trophies from women at the 2028 Olympics,” in reference to recent guidelines set forth by the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). With this decision, transgender women are effectively excluded from competing in women’s sports. Not surprisingly, Trump then praised USOPC board chairman Gene Sykes for making this stand.
Wasserman’s support for Trump’s statements were a clear indication of the planning process that has taken place thus far for LA28. He noted that the formation of the task force “marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028.”
In addition to the Olympic Games, Trump expressed excitement about another major sporting event: the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He identified both occasions as chances to present a new portrait of America on a worldwide stage.
