JP Saxe Cancels North American Tour Amid Low Ticket Sales

Toronto singer-songwriter JP Saxe passes his own huge life announcement. He’s pulled the plug on his hugely anticipated North American tour, which was scheduled to launch this fall. The decision was made amid the musician’s struggle with less-than-stellar ticket sales and increasing costs of touring. Saxe made the announcement with a sweet TikTok video. Even though his tour didn’t go on, he shared his appreciation for all the support that continued to pour in.

Initially, Saxe had set a condition to sell approximately 20,000 tickets within 48 hours for his “Make Yourself at Home” tour to proceed. However, abysmal ticket sales made it necessary for the team to call off the concert series. This series featured more than 25 dates across the country from coast to coast, including in cities such as Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, and Vancouver. The Grammy-nominated musician is best known for his 2019 viral smash hit single “If the World Was Ending” with J. Along with amazing songwriter Julia Michaels, he wrote this smash hit.

Reasons for Cancellation

In his social media announcement, Saxe cited two primary reasons for the tour’s cancellation: low ticket sales and the high cost of life on the road. Ticket sales increased by 2,000 tickets immediately following his appearance announcement. He soon realized that this bump didn’t actually provide him the tour support he needed to make the tour profitable.

“Those 2,000 tickets were a reminder … of how wonderful it can be to ask for help and watch a community come together, and this really was the nicest the internet has ever been to me,” – JP Saxe

The artist understood the surge in additional ticket sales as an encouraging affirmation. In the end, they just didn’t make it over the threshold necessary to save the tour and continue on.

Community Support and Response

Saxe’s announcement created an unexpected tsunami of support from his fans. While expressing their disappointment, advocates led the way in illuminating a nuanced understanding of the situation. Echoing the themes of their works, the artist amplified the power of community to overcome adversity. Even with the cancellation, he found his comfort in the outpouring of love from his audience.

In the wake of this announcement, Saxe again assured his fans after the drop that fans would be given full refunds on tickets they had already purchased. He recognized the financial impact of the cancellation on those who planned to attend his shows but stressed that it was necessary to prioritize sustainability and viability in his career.

Looking Ahead

Though as Saxe works through this current disappointment, he is hopeful about future possibilities. His heartfelt message and appreciation for his followers reflect an artist dedicated to maintaining a strong connection with his audience. Unfortunately, our “Make Yourself at Home” tour as we’d envisioned it can’t go on. Knowing Saxe’s passion for music and performing and his commitment to his craft, one can bet there are exciting new projects and performances on the horizon.
