Messi and Alba Escape Sanctions Following All-Star Game Absence

Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba run unlikely risk of sanctions for their refusal to participate in MLS All-Star Game. The two players, superstars of Inter Miami CF, risked a one-game suspension. According to league rules, players who do not attend the All-Star event without an approved medical excuse will be fined. However, both players have now been cleared.

Messi is now level with MLS top scorer laurels, with 18 goals this season. He’s been a key man in setting up goals, recording 10 assists in only 17 league appearances. Given his outstanding play, the 38-year-old player’s continued presence in future matches will be dependent on how fit the player is going forward. He recently made six starts during the CONCACAF Champions Cup and four starts in the FIFA Club World Cup, showcasing his pivotal role in the team.

Despite being the oldest of the three, Jordi Alba, 36, has made a big impact on Inter Miami. He’s contributed one goal and eight assists in 18 MLS appearances this term. Much like Messi, Alba’s participation in future games will be based on his health. He has already made seven starts in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and one in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Given their non-inclusion in the All-Star game, there were some worries about likely fines. Javier Mascherano, a coach linked to the Argentinian side, has sounded a positive note as regards their preparedness.

“Let’s hope he can train alongside the group so we can count on both of them for tomorrow’s game. We haven’t received any [sanction],” – Mascherano

Unfortunately, Messi has had some fitness problems recently, and Mascherano offered his thoughts on the danger of too many matches for players.

“Look, players always have discomfort, especially when they play every three days. But luckily, [Messi] is returning today,” – Mascherano

Messi and Alba’s late decisions to sit out the MLS All-Star Game. They’re hoping to avoid injuries and issues and stay in great shape and playing at a high level as the season wears on. Their talent for avoiding sanctions proves they’ll remain integral members of Inter Miami’s starting XI. They’ll continue to fight to come out on top in the MLS as well as the Canadian Championship.
