King Frederik and Queen Mary Extend Holiday Plans Abroad

King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have decided to prolong their holiday abroad. As fellows, they will postpone their return to Denmark, which is currently scheduled for July 13. The royal couple has been very happy to be away from the public during private vacation since July 6. They’ve made a number of stops on their national escape.

Last week, King Frederik made headlines during his visit to Wimbledon, where he represented Denmark at the prestigious tennis tournament. After that tour, Queen Mary took the opportunity to go back home to her native Hobart, Tasmania. She frequently frequents this favorite hotspot every time she takes a break from her regal responsibilities.

Crown Prince Christian Assumes Duties

During King Frederik and Queen Mary’s extended absence, their eldest son, Crown Prince Christian, has stepped in as acting regent. At only 19 years old, he will continue to guide the T as its interim leader through July 20. His active participation marks a key step in his development from idealism to the pragmatism of future royal responsibilities. He is preparing to take on additional tasks on behalf of the Danish monarch.

Crown Prince Christian isn’t the only royal family member stepping up to serve during God’s time. Her elder son, King Frederik IX, was often out of the country, and when he was, Queen Margrethe ruled in his stead. She served in this role from July 9–15. This transition further accentuates the royal family’s recognition of the need for a more collaborative style of governance during times of individual absence.

Future Plans at Gråsten Palace

Their Majesties are scheduled to move to Gråsten Palace on July 28. Since 1935, this picturesque palace has been the vacation residence of the Danish royal family. It provides an idyllic backdrop to their family holidays and royal occasions. Gråsten Palace is a former 18th-century royal summer residence and an icon of Denmark’s deep royal roots.

The couple’s grandchildren will benefit from summer stays at Gråsten Palace as well. Princess Isabella, 18½, is getting ready to enter her third year at Øregård Gymnasium next month. The arrival of the younger twins, 14-year-old Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine will complete their family at the idyllic summer residence. We hope this visit will be more leisurely and allow for family bonding as well.
