Swiatek Dominates Anisimova to Claim Historic Wimbledon Title

Iga Swiatek toasted a first in her incredible tennis career by winning her maiden Wimbledon crown. Along the way she crushed Amanda Anisimova in the semi final, destroying the young American 6-0, 6-0. It was played on the sacred Centre Court at the All England Club and lasted only 57 minutes. This rendered it the most lopsided women’s final in 114 years!

The 24-year-old former world No.1 has claimed her sixth Grand Slam title. Of all the title runs of the past two weeks, Swiatek’s was the most commanding. She became only the second player in the Open era to win a major title without losing a game in the final. This accomplishment highlights her court superiority, as she exhibited brilliance all match long.

Early on, Swiatek dug herself into a hole when she was broken in the very first game. In response, she roared back with a vengeance, rediscovering her composure and striking form. It took her only 25 minutes to finish off that first set. The Polish athlete produced a masterful and technical display. This did Anisimova, the 13th seed who had just upset world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, leaving almost no room to operate in the final.

Iga Swiatek winning at Wimbledon, rounding out her stellar haul. She has yet to lose a final in the six majors she’s taken part in! She has since garnered acclaim as Wimbledon’s eighth straight first-time female champion. This victory marks the first return of Serena Williams to the title since she won it in 2016. This victory solidifies her already high status among the elite in women’s tennis. It is a testament to her ability to find long-term success.

The historical importance of Swiatek’s victory is hard to exaggerate. What a monumental opportunity this is! It’s the first time since 1911 that a woman has won a Wimbledon final without losing a game. Her success will continue to help encourage young women of color aspiring to be the best tennis players in the world.
