Walmart recently announced the recall of an estimated 850,000 Ozark Trail water bottles after a child suffered severe bites in an incident related to those bottles. The recall only affects the 64-ounce stainless steel insulated water bottles (model number 83-662). Those bottles ended up online and in Walmart brick-and-mortars. On Thursday, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released a recall notice. Among other things, they called out the dangers these products present to consumers.
The Ozark Trail water bottles, distinguishable by their silver color and black screwcap lid, measure 4.41 by 4.41 by 11.5 inches. Each bottle has the Ozark Trail logo stamped into the side. The bottles present a choking and laceration hazard if consumers continue to use the recalled bottles. Consumers should immediately stop using these recalled bottles.
According to the CPSC, the water bottles can “forcefully eject, posing serious impact and laceration hazards, when a consumer attempts to open the capped bottles after food, carbonated beverages or perishable beverages, such as juice or milk, are stored inside over time.” This serious issue presents a great danger to the health and safety of those who possibly bought the impacted goods.
In this case, Walmart has done the right thing to protect consumers’ safety by recalling all units of the defective water bottles. They encourage consumers to check their purchases and stop using the recalled products.
