Lando Norris on his first-ever home Grand Prix podium celebrating with fans! He was the 13th different British driver to win his home race. The victory at Silverstone is Norris’s first silverware at this event and his eighth career Grand Prix victory. His remarkable run boosted Piastri to a McLaren one-two finish, his teammate Oscar Piastri finishing just behind him.
Norris’s win significantly narrows the points gap between him and Piastri, now just eight points apart at the season’s midpoint. This victory is especially sweet for Norris, who couldn’t hide his delight after crossing the finish line.
“This is a dream, winning at home. It’s beautiful,” said Norris in a post-race interview.
That year, an inspired performance from Nico Hulkenberg secured third place for Sauber. This was his first ever podium finish – after an amazing 239 races without it. Hulkenberg’s accomplishment was further underscored by his race renaissance, a recovery of 16 positions throughout the contest.
“I don’t think I can comprehend what we’ve just done,” Hulkenberg remarked, reflecting on the significance of his accomplishment.
After all that, Lewis Hamilton ended up fourth and Max Verstappen, starting from pole, finished fifth. On yet another strong weekend for Fernando Alonso, the Aston Martin driver led his team to a double-points finish, taking ninth overall. Meanwhile, George Russell just squeezed Mercedes’ only last point.
Pierre Gasly’s sixth place looked very good for Alpine. Lance Stroll just behind in seventh for Aston Martin, while Alex Albon rounded out the top eight for teammates Williams.
As the drivers head into the next phase of the season, Norris’s victory not only elevates his standing but brings renewed hope to McLaren as they continue to strive for success.
