Known as the Bodyguards, these unique strongmen brought down the house—and the judges’ table—on NBC’s primetime reality competition show America’s Got Talent. Their most recent live performance was broadcast on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The performance fused raw power and breathtaking pageantry. That was enough to leave Sofia Vergara, one of the show’s panelists, both impressed and bewildered.
Sofia Vergara—best known as Gloria on Modern Family and a prominent defender of the arts—was honest about her conflicted feelings on the performance. At one point, she exclaimed, “It’s like we’re watching two different shows,” highlighting the unique nature of the act. Her reaction was seconded by her fellow judges, with Howie Mandel admitting that it was just a tough performance to watch.
“Everything you did, the control, the strength, this is hard stuff!” Mandel praised the Bodyguards for their impressive display. Simon Cowell provided a contrasting view, stating, “I agree with all of you other than I got bored halfway through,” which brought a range of opinions from the panel.
During the entire performance, Vergara was as animated as one might imagine, breaking a sweat from her enthusiasm. That was just the case that Mel B pointed out when she reacted to Vergara’s over-the-top freak out. Simon Cowell added a humorous touch to the moment, saying that Vergara was “actually screaming the entire time, literally, in my ear throughout that performance.”
The Bodyguards totally impressed the judges and received “three-and-a-half yeses.” All four judges were wowed by their performance, with Howie Mandel calling them undeniable and giving them his golden buzzer. No matter the lukewarm criticism, their competition-level performance stole the show and stood out to fans and judges as the most memorable act of the night.
