Maido, perhaps the most praised of Lima’s many, many culinary wonders, has reached an inspiring high level. It won the top spot on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025! The news came during a star-studded ceremony in Turin, Italy, on Thursday evening. This year, Maido marks an important milestone. Like all fine things, it has taken the coveted number one spot, bumping last year’s winner, Disfrutar from Barcelona.
Maido is famous for its Nikkei cuisine, an impressive fusion of Japanese culinary methods with the unique flavors of Peru. This exotic combination has earned the restaurant international recognition, adding lust to its growing acclaim within the global culinary community.
Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo, Spain, took second place in the list, just behind Maido. At the same time, Le Bernardin in New York City took home the bronze medal. Other than Alchemist, the most impressive showing came from Quintonil, in Mexico City, which further cemented its position at No. 3.
Atomix, a two-Michelin-starred Korean restaurant, is operated by the high-energy husband-and-wife team, JungHyun Park and Ellia Park. This year, they made an even more remarkable jump in the rankings, moving up from fifth to twelfth place! Along with these high-profile restaurants, Atelier Crenn in San Francisco has made it back onto the list. It recently jumped to No. 80!
The list shamed a bunch of other well-known excellent restaurants. Pujol in Mexico City came in at No. 41 this year, and SingleThread in Healdsburg, California moved up to take the No. 20 spot. On that very first list, César made its New York debut, coming in at No. 98. On the other hand, Potong in Bangkok was named Highest New Entry, debuting at No. 96.
London’s Ikoyi took home the Highest Climber Award. It jumped a whopping 27 positions in the overall rankings from last year.
Massimo Bottura and Lara Gilmore received the Woodford Reserve Icon Award recognizing their extraordinary achievements and innovations in the culinary arts. It was their visionary work and social impact that took place at Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy that made them truly stand apart.
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is compiled from the votes of 1,120 culinary experts, including chefs, food writers, and global gastronomes.
