King Charles just announced a groundbreaking new partnership with Netflix. This collaboration marks the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust, a transformative organization he founded in 1976. The project is a testament to the powerful change the Trust has inspired in young people in Great Britain and around the world. Since that time, it has served more than a million people. In this special episode, award-winning actor and musician Idris Elba will join the conversation. He credits The King’s Trust with providing him essential support during his formative years.
The film will follow King Charles and Idris Elba as they explore the impact made by The King’s Trust. Along with them, we’ll explore its impact over the last 50 years. With unprecedented access to the organization’s inner workings, King Charles will shine a light on the incredible stories of those it has rescued and rehabilitated. Elba’s production company, 22 Summers, will co-produce the project. Nationally, it’s slated to be released a year from now.
Famed British actor Idris Elba released a video thanking The King’s Trust for their support. He told us, “The King’s Trust provided me with an opportunity that was life-changing. When I didn’t have the resources to go after my dreams, they gave me tangible support—including financial support—that helped me take the first steps toward realizing my career aspirations. To that end, Elba’s role in the development of the project helped him make a similar opportunity for young people with his own foundation.
This new partnership between King Charles and Netflix fits in perfectly with an effort that’s already underway to attract younger audiences. Harry and his wife Meghan Markle recently signed a five-year deal with the streaming giant. They’re even behind a wide variety of other works like the popular docu-series “Harry & Meghan” and Meghan’s own lifestyle show “With Love, Meghan.”
“The King is pleased for The Trust to have this wonderful opportunity to showcase their work to a global audience, sharing the compelling stories of some of the more than 1 million young people it has helped in Britain and internationally over the past 50 years.”
The King’s Trust has been key in enabling young people to access the resources that far too many do not have. Celebrities like David Beckham have made their support for the initiative clear, putting an even bigger spotlight on it. Recent images of King Charles and Beckham sharing a light moment serve as a testament to the positive influence of The King’s Trust.
Elba highlighted the broader goal of his foundation, stating, “Today, through the Elba Hope Foundation, I’m focused on creating those same opportunities for young people who are full of potential but lacking access. Around the world, millions are still waiting for that one door to open.”
