Major Recall Issued for Dr Pepper Zero Sugar Cans

The Dr Pepper Company has announced a nationwide recall of its Dr Pepper Zero Sugar. This recall affects more than 19,000 cases of 12 pack and 24 pack of 12-ounce cans. This voluntary recall, announced on May 23, affects cans that were distributed only in the states of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) later classified the recall as a Class II on June 5, indicating that the product may cause “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

Consumers need to understand that the recalled Dr Pepper Zero Sugar cans are misbranded as a zero-sugar product. In actuality, these cans hold a new full sugar formulation that can contribute to the health risks of high sugar intake. The recalled product has a “best by” date of February 16, 2026. This labeling error could contribute to serious health conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, and type 2 diabetes.

The recall affects over 200,000 cans of Dr Pepper Zero Sugar. This ubiquitous drink often includes aspartame, a prevalent artificial sweetener. The FDA report indeed validated the problem of misbranding. It incorrectly labeled the defective cans as a “full sugar product” rather than the “zero-sugar product” that was being promoted.

The agency with regulatory authority has seriously considered the danger. They found that it is indeed harmful, but only very unlikely to have serious adverse health effects. Anyone who has purchased the affected products should thoroughly check their supply. Read the full public advisory here. It is vital! Never eat any of these products.

Dr Pepper hopes customers will return the recalled products. Return to the retail store where you purchased them to receive your complete refund. The company was very responsive and addressed the incorrect labeling when we brought it to their attention. Booker, and they are taking action to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
