On October 7, 2023, Shiri Bibas, 32, was kidnapped with her husband Yarden and their two toddlers, Kfir and Ariel. The family was in the line of fire per the attack on southern Israel. At the time of their abduction, Kfir was only 9 months old and Ariel only 4 years old. The Bibas family is perhaps the most famous of those victims. Their plight, compounded by the tender age of their children and the horrific details of their abduction, has captured national and international headlines.
Aside from the obvious humanitarian tragedy, this is a major blunder for Israel. After surviving 484 days in captivity, he miraculously was freed alive in February. He was released as part of a hostages-prisoners exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel. This deal called for the immediate release of Shiri, Kfir, Ariel, and him.
