As Prince Harry said just this month, hoping for a resolution while continuing to air dirty laundry is difficult. He relocated to the United States with his daughter Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. Combined, they retreated from their formal royal responsibilities. The couple now lives with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in Montecito, California.
Prince William advocates and works hard on his royal responsibilities. Most recently he inspected the Army Air Corps home in Suffolk as their Colonel-in-Chief. This role had been widely anticipated to be Prince Harry’s before his announcement to step back from life as a senior royal. During his visit, Prince William engaged with soldiers, inquiring about the pace of life and the well-being of their families. He made a point to raise soldiers’ concerns regarding their homes and participated in a weekly social event known as ‘Archer’s Breakfast,’ where he distributed bacon and sausage rolls to personnel and their families.
Prince Harry has not been afraid to attack members of the royal family. And during a 2022 appearance on Netflix’s Live to Lead, he publicly attacked his relationship with the now Prince of Wales William and Charles III. He implied that they had chosen to wed for purpose rather than affection. I pressed him hard on this point and he was adamant that he wouldn’t dream of ever returning his wife and children to the UK. This decision follows his unsuccessful appeal to provide police protection for his family during their time in the country.
Even with all of this, Prince Harry struck a tone of acceptance when it came to the idea that the family feuds will continue. He said there was “no point” in fighting any longer, and he focused attention on the preciousness of life. Specifically, he was taking aim at his own need for forgiveness, and he specifically stated that he wanted to squash the beef with his family.
Prince William’s recent actions demonstrate his steadfast commitment to the military community. Though politically astute, he is more concerned with his family issues. His make a stop to the AAC base also reflects that he takes his royal responsibilities, as well as his personal connections, seriously. This becomes evident even beneath the surface familial squabbling.
