Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Al Nassr Exit with Cryptic Message

The Portuguese forward and global football icon Cristiano Ronaldo probably played his last match for Al Nassr. The 40-year-old athlete posted a picture of himself in an Al Nassr jersey on X. He explained the photo with these powerful words, “This chapter is done.” His initial dog-whistle post earned wild speculation as to his future after a successful year in the Saudi Pro League.

Ronaldo signed a massive contract with Al Nassr after joining the Saudi club in January 2022, following his separation from Manchester United. From his onset with the club, he left an immeasurable influence. He ended the season league’s top goal scorer, with an impressive 24 goals. Yet, despite his age, his performance reminded the audience that his artistry and talent remain undiminished. Moreover, it cemented his role as a key player in the Saudi Arabian football scene.

As his contract is set to expire this coming summer, Ronaldo’s future is up in the air. Apart from that, there is an extraordinary retractable transfer window from 1–10 June, only applicable to the 32 clubs participating in the FIFA Club World Cup. This injects a thrilling subplot into his potential departure from Al Nassr. Lionel Messi, his long-time foe, will be playing in the Club World Cup with Inter Miami. That would only be a cherry-on-top move to further emphasize Ronaldo’s iconic next chapter in his epic career.

Al Nassr’s recent performance raises questions about Ronaldo’s future with the club. Their remarkable run of form was almost capped two years ago, as they lost 4-0 in the Asian Champions League semifinals to Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale. That led them to a third-place finish in the Saudi Pro League. That outcome may be especially important to Ronaldo, as he weighs his next step.

Last October, Ronaldo suggested he wouldn’t mind ending his career with Al Nassr. But it seems like the time, circumstances and possibly the scenery have conspired to make him restless for new pastures.

“The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.” – Cristiano Ronaldo
