Domhnall Gleeson Takes the Lead in NBC’s “The Paper,” an Exciting Spinoff of “The Office”

Domhnall Gleeson, main Domhnall Gleeson to star in NBC’s highly-anticipated The Office-spinoff, The Paper. The new office series, developed by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, kicks off on Peacock this fall. Woven through are the mechanics of a daily, small town, nearly bankrupt, Midwestern newspaper “The Truth Teller.” With Gleeson taking the field as its enthusiastic captain, Happiness is an inspiring underdog tale.

Yet the project has really turned heads due to its connection to the perennially popular, pioneering original series. It further distinguishes itself with its highly original premise. The Paper chronicles the fight of a sinking newspaper and its loyal staff to restore it to its former status as the community’s essential source for news and information. From the get-go, Gleeson’s character is sure that he can lead “The Truth Teller” back to glory. This conviction rings particularly poignant given the state of journalism today.

In a notable twist, the camera crew behind “The Office” will be responsible for chronicling the sitcom-style antics in “The Paper,” giving fans a familiar aesthetic. Gleeson told us that the biggest draw for him to this project was collaboration with the great Greg Daniels, whom Gleeson described as the project’s “secret weapon.”

“If Greg Daniels is involved and he had the idea and thought of it and he handpicked Domhnall, and Domhnall is going to be amazing,” – John Krasinski

Gleeson revealed that he received encouragement from former “The Office” stars John Krasinski and Steve Carell, who both urged him to take on this new role. He shared their advice:

“I mean, his big advice that he gave me was to do it.” – Domhnall Gleeson

The creative team behind “The Paper” represents a wide array of diversity. You’ll get performances from Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key. Oscar Nuñez, best known for his role as Oscar on “The Office,” will star in The Truth Teller. Get ready to watch him go to work!

“The same with Steve Carell, another just wonderful actor who I’d worked with before.”

Kate Flannery’s character, Meredith, is likewise set to appear periodically, increasing the reunion factor for returning fans. In a striking narrative development, Greg Daniels relocated Oscar’s story arc to Toledo, Ohio. That bustling metropolis has three times the population of Scranton, making the stakes for journalism’s success there much higher.

He is very much all in on this job. To make the role more believable, he drops his Irish brogue, proving once again his range as an actor.

As the series begins to air, Gleeson is keen to talk about the collective energy of the cast. He noted that they are united in their mission:

“I’m so happy I did it because I think we have something really lovely. So I’m thrilled with it.”

His commitment to the role involves stepping away from his Irish accent to better suit the character, showcasing his versatility as an actor.

As the series unfolds, Gleeson emphasizes the collaborative spirit among the cast. He noted that they are united in their mission:

“We are three members of a wonderful ensemble cast of underdog characters that are banding together to keep journalism alive.”
