Young Artists Shine at Level Two Youth Project Exhibition in Felixstowe

The Level Two Youth Project is creating a real buzz in Felixstowe! They are celebrating the artistic talents of local children with an exhibition at 142 Gallery. This exhibit is open until May 28. It provides a platform for artistic expression by many of the gifted young people, aged 7 – 13, who take part in several support and activity programs. Located on Hamilton Road, the gallery is open Thursday to Tuesday from 10:00 to 16:00 BST and Wednesday from 10:00 to 13:00.

The exhibition features a non-specific theme, providing a creative space for young artists to create work on their own terms and in multidimensional ways. Most works express the inspiration of the nature around them, capturing the youthful wonder of the participating kids. Megan Pilcher, a youth worker with the Level Two Youth Project, emphasized the importance of such opportunities for young people.

“We are passionate about creating opportunities for young people that remove luck and allow anyone to participate.” – Megan Pilcher

Each year, among the young artists is Libby. Her experience in the project has helped this 12-year-old find a sense of joy and confidence. She noted, “The drama sessions have helped a lot with my confidence and I’ve met quite a few new people through Level Two as well, and I’ve got a few more friends.”

8-year-old aspiring artist Monica had been playing with bubble wrap to create cool textures on colorful paintings. She’s painted her pieces since February and her work brings a truly lush and exciting color palette to the exhibition. Caitlin, 13, is another contributor to the project, with a passion for painting and music. She thought about how these kinds of activities have helped her to focus better while at school.

“I use the music studio and also do painting in the art room. I’ve been able to focus more at school, and it breaks up my week better.” – Caitlin

The Level Two Youth Project had recently collaborated with local youth arts organizations such as Hamilton MAS and Paint 2 the People. Collectively, they are raising the bar on experiences for everyone involved. Creativity flows through the artwork at 142 Gallery. It is a big boost to assist sustaining the new Level Two Youth Project. As always, proceeds from any sales will support the nonprofit directly.

Megan Pilcher was enthusiastic about this year’s exhibition, citing the strong foundation laid by its inaugural success last year.

“Following the success from last year we are thrilled to be able to host 142 Gallery again and showcase the talent of young people in Felixstowe.” – Megan Pilcher

The exhibition at 142 Gallery represents the extraordinary imagination, resourcefulness, and potential of these amazing young people. It displays the energetic artistic pulse that reverberates throughout Felixstowe and the surrounding villages. The Level Two Youth Project gives them the tools, space, and freedom to convey their artistic expressions. By participating in these activities, they develop important leadership skills and increase their self-confidence.
