Britney Spears Faces Backlash After Smoking Incident on Plane

Britney Spears, the legendary pop star who just recently gained her freedom after being embroiled in a high-profile conservatorship, is making headlines again. Sadly, this time it’s for all the wrong reasons after a dangerous incident on a plane. On Saturday, Spears discussed what happened on Instagram. At one point during the flight, she sparked up a cigarette, causing the crew to have to escalate their warning procedure. This incident comes about six months after the termination of her 13-year conservatorship, which ended in November 2021. For that entire period, her father, Jamie Spears, served as conservator of her estate.

Since regaining her freedom, Spears has used her platform to educate others about her complex journey toward independence and self-discovery. Her recent memoir, “The Woman in Me,” explores her childhood, rise to fame, and significant moments in her career and personal life. The memoir shot up the charts to become an instant bestseller, cementing her continued and public rebirth.

Spears provided further context in her Instagram post about the incident, describing her intentions.

“Some planes I’ve been on you can’t smoke mostly but this one was different because the drink holders were on outside of seat !!!” – Britney Spears

She explained that she wanted to smoke a cigarette on the flight and regretted her actions that day.

She offered apologies to those who may have been hurt by her misuse of funds. She said most of the time, when she got on a plane, a flight attendant would seat her in the back of the plane, making her feel like the one getting special treatment.

“I do so apologize to anyone I offended but the flight attendants always make sure I’m way at the back of plane anyways 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ !!! I thought officials greeted me as support and I was like WOW I feel special !!!” – Britney Spears

According to reports from TMZ, the flight attendant called law enforcement because she was smoking.

Gimme More

Aside from her recent kerfuffle, Spears will soon be the focus of a new biopic based on her memoir. Universal Pictures has now acquired the rights to bring the film to production. Director Jon M. Chu, currently riding high off his success helming “Crazy Rich Asians” and set to direct the upcoming adaptation of “Wicked,” will shoot it. Marc Platt is currently attached to produce this long-awaited project.

As Spears continues to navigate her newfound freedom and public life, incidents like these highlight the ongoing scrutiny she faces. Meanwhile, Spears has a documentary on her life in the works. With a bestselling memoir to boot, she’s helped establish herself as a powerful force in popular culture.
