Thirty-six-year-old Chris Brown after his release from a U.K. jail on Wednesday. He was released on bail after posting 5 million pounds, or approximately $6.7 million. Next stop for Kobe He can now go on with his world tour. He needs to honour his word by showing up to court for the future hearings on his charges of aggravated assault.
Brown’s legal troubles started this time last week, when he was arrested on charges of grievous bodily harm with intent. The criminal allegations stem from an unconscionable episode outside the Tape London nightclub in February 2023. He purportedly assaulted music producer Amadou “Abe” Diaw in the course of that attack. In his suit, he formally accuses Brown of having “brutally assaulted” him by inflicting grievous and permanent injuries.
The alleged assault involved Brown using a large bottle of tequila to “beat [Diaw] over the head with crushing blows” and “ruthlessly stomp him for approximately 30 seconds,” as detailed in the lawsuit. Diaw and Brown are both due back in court on June 20 for a status hearing.
Brown has a long history of legal troubles over his career. Specifically, he was charged with felony assault against the singer Rihanna in 2009, for which he received probation until 2015. His recent arrest joins an equally colorful rap sheet of encounters with the law spanning nearly half a century.
As he sits waiting for his next court date, Brown has thus far remained publicly silent on the developing case against him. His co-defendant on the current charges, fellow rapper Omololu Akinlolu, aka HoodyBaby, is accused of the same.
